Peter Tabichi

Speaker Summary

Peter Tabichi Mokaya was brought up in a remote village in a family of teachers. Despite facing numerous challenges, including losing his mother at a young age and trekking to school barefooted, he witnessed firsthand the dedication that teachers bring to the community. This experience motivated him to pursue a career in teaching, with the goal of enlightening others on how to tackle life’s challenges.

With the encouragement of his family, he worked hard to pursue his interests and eventually became a teacher. In 2015 after teaching in other schools, he joined Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School, which is located in a semi-arid village in the Rift Valley Province, an area that is often affected by famine and drought.

Tabichi’s dedication to teaching and his students earned him the prestigious Global Teacher Prize in April 2019.
