ASWforUkraine: A Case of School-Sponsored Humanitarian Relief Effort

  • - School-driven aid: Model for effective humanitarian relief
  • - Sustain support post-media: Ongoing needs demand attention
  • - Empower schools to build lasting impactful relief initiatives

Session Description

The American School of Warsaw’s ASWforUkraine project has emerged as an exemplary and enormously effective school-sponsored humanitarian relief effort. From February 2022, every week, this all-volunteer effort of students, faculty, and parents turns donations into meaningful relief for thousands of Ukrainian refugees and those who stayed in their home country impacted by the war.

Schools, organizations, Rotary chapters, and individuals have given generously. The needs continue. ASW maintains the levels of service that many still depend on, especially as the media attention is less intense–the needs are still very much there.

The video presents how ASWforUkraine grew out of a heartfelt school community project that began in response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine to an ASWfor Foundation – a student-led, adults-supported NGO.
