The Power of Collective Teacher Efficacy

  • - Where to begin: we explore what ‘collective teacher efficacy' means and why it is essential to a change in culture, starting with a reflection on what is happening in the classroom, what the learners say and how action research cycles can provide powerful feedback for leaders.
  • - Focused attention: exploring what is working – and why -and building a strong pedagogy around the latest research. How we ensured that every member of staff was able to make a valuable contribution to a shared vision – and shared approaches that work for the learner.
  • - How we ensure sustainability – how collective teacher efficacy becomes a thread in all of our settings, linked to our values. We will then explain the next stages of our journey and how we are going to continue to use the latest research to deepen the approach across the curriculum.

Session Description

We will explore what ‘collective teacher efficacy’ means in practice by detailing our 6-year journey as a multi-academy trust– working with Osiris on the Visible Learning programme and then embedding pedagogy and research with a strong, united vision of what learning looks like – one that involves everyone; students, teachers, support staff, parents and governors.
The outcomes in 2023 spoke for themselves – our action research and collective approaches for learners led to a significant rise in specific data – our reading data this year was above national as a trust, and the success of the approaches has been more widely validated by external visits from external bodies.
We would like to unpick that journey and share the views of our leaders, teachers and students to showcase the real power of collective teacher efficacy and why the 1.57 statistic can change what learning looks like and ultimately help to build incredibly strong foundations for the lives of those young learners.
