The Mental Health and Wellbeing: Of children and young people with learning difficulties

  • - Provide a clear definition of the term ' mental health and wellbeing'' which educational professionals can use when supporting children and young people with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • - Provide practical ways of assessing mental health and well-being that participants can use in a busy school or nursery environment and both mainstream and specialist settings.
  • - Help participants to create a 'toolkit' of strategies and intervention approaches that they can use to enhance the mental health and well-being of children and young people with a range of learning difficulties.

Session Description

This session will explore a holistic approach to supporting the mental health of children and young people with learning difficulties. Attendees will be provided with practical, evidence-based tools that can be used in mainstream settings, as well as in specialist schools, to assess and address children’s needs. The session will also explore the interaction between a child’s diagnosis or disability, and the psychological, social and environmental factors which influence how they manage the ups and downs of life. This will allow attendees to consider how best to support the development of a child or young person’s coping skills and resilience.

My book to be explored during the session:
