The ART of Metacognition: Developing skills for deeper learning

  • - A definition of metacognition and why students need to master it.
  • - Practical approaches to developing metacognitive cultures of learning.
  • - How visualising progress in skills and metacognition can create a shared understanding of success.

Session Description

Metacognition is a high-impact approach to improving attainment. Students with strong metacognitive skills are flexible thinkers, take an active role in their learning journey, and are agents of their success.

But what does this look like in the classroom? And given that there is only so much time and space within the curriculum, how can we integrate metacognitive approaches that will deepen learning within and across subject areas?

This session will provide practical approaches to metacognition, explore what these look like in practice, and discuss how visualising growth in skills and metacognition can create a shared understanding of success.
