Seeing School Improvement as a Field of Practice

  • - School improvement can be seen as a field of practice in which there are different views about ‘what counts’ as legitimate knowledge
  • - Understanding these differences can help us to navigate the field more constructively to build knowledge and improve the system over time
  • - It can also help us to identify and address blind spots and false dichotomies in our policy, practice and discourse

Session Description

What we are learning from academy trusts in England? This session will focus on what it means to view school improvement as a field of practice. It draws on Legitimation Code Theory to reveal fresh insights about the knowledge and dispositions that groups of educators in England lean towards when thinking about how to improve schools, and what this might mean for system improvement.
