Safe, Skilled, Supported: Today’s essentials for future-focused practitioners

  • - It is not physiologically possible to cope well with change from a position of fear. All the literature shows that we need to feel calm and safe to be open to new ideas. The school environment is unfeasibly stressful and this is affecting both teachers and students.
  • - It does not have to be this way. To improve the whole system, we need to establish a culture where every practitioner feels safe, skilled and supported by the school system. They will then be able to improve things for each student, collectively and individually.
  • - Why safe, skilled and supported are the three key aspects to a healthy culture and how to achieve this in your setting. (Hint: Culture eats strategy for breakfast)

Session Description

If we want our staff to successfully adapt to the changes in education that we all know are coming, they need to be able to take risks, ask questions and fail forward.

This session will explore what can happen when practitioners at all levels feel safe, skilled and supported. These three simple organisational principles could improve teacher wellbeing, turn the tide on the recruitment and retention crisis, improve student attendance and outcomes and enable us to embrace the future of education together.
