Rethinking Leadership for the Needs of Our Time

  • - Schools are complex systems that need to adapt and evolve. Leaders have an impact by becoming more aware of the dynamic interdependence between themselves as leaders, their school and the wider system that holds the challenges they face in place.
  • - Through collaboration, Rethinking Leadership supports leaders who are intentionally developing themselves, others, their school, and the wider system to support a more expansive education for every young person.
  • - Through collaborative innovation, Rethinking Leadership aims to make the argument for change and to influence the future of leadership development and learning for our school leaders.

Session Description

The current ‘golden thread’ of NPQ leadership development may be necessary, but it’s not sufficient to prepare school leaders for the demands they face. The current challenges of wellbeing, recruitment and retention both reflect and exacerbate this. In January 2023 a group of thoughtful, committed school and system leaders convened to consider a complementary approach.

This session will explore emerging principles and practices for leadership development that connect leaders with their purpose, their agency and their influence; create the inner conditions for outer change; and enable every leader to shape the system to meet the needs of our time.
