Guiding Schools to Improved Performance: Using a data envelopment analysis approach

Session Description

This study aims to improve Scottish public education by analysing the performance of public schools and local authorities. The objective is to measure the performance of the six key drivers at an individual and Local Authority level to identify where improvement is needed. Central to this study is the interdisciplinary approach from the fields of Education and Economics. A quantitative approach will be used to develop a model of efficiency that identifies the best-performing schools and an important feature conducted in conjunction with stakeholder engagement so strategies for facilitating these improvements such as establishing a framework for setting targets and emulating role model schools. The research produced will be the first to create an aggregated educational efficiency index based on the data from the Scottish Government’s National Improvement Framework’s six key drivers of improvement.
