From Knowledge to Understanding to Wisdom: A tribute to John West-Burnham

  • - Instilling a deep and lifelong love of learning from a very early age.
  • - Creating cultures of learning that promote intrinsic motivation, curiosity and a love of uncertainty.
  • - Nurturing and equipping students with all they need to contribute positively to society.

Session Description

This session will use practical, evidence-based examples rooted in the principles that underpin the Joy of Not Knowing philosophy of education and leadership to explore ways in which we can create cultures of learning that inspire students to perceive that acquisition of knowledge is just the first step in the learning process. We will look at how the curriculum can be presented in a way that inspires students to become intrinsically motivated to acquire a deep mastery of what they have learnt (understanding) and a deep curiosity that then enables them to use this understanding to add cultural capital (wisdom).
