- - I will discuss the benefits of a public speaking approach to oral language development including complimentary skills and dispositions that are developed as a result of this approach.

Session Description
In my experience, the ‘student voice’ is most often spoken about in a metaphorical sense. To truly realize the ‘student voice’, all students must be enabled and empowered to develop and strengthen their physical voice.
In this session, I will discuss:
– Why it is important to empower all students with the skills of public speaking
– How teachers can begin this training with their students
– The benefits of a public speaking approach to oral language development
– Complimentary skills and dispositions that develop as a result of this approach
Until we equip all students with the skills of public speaking, we cannot expect that all students will be able or have the confidence to speak up.
