Dr Sakena Yacoobi
Dr. Sakena Yacoobi is the hopeful future of Afghan education, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee and a globally recognized voice for peace, women’s empowerment, and refugee rights. During the dark years of Taliban rule, she risked her life to support the illegal education of 3000 girls and then founded the award-winning, restorative Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL), in response to the lack of education and healthcare that had plagued Afghanistan over decades of war and strife. In this role, Dr. Yacoobi has established 352 learning centers, four schools, a hospital, a radio station and a TV station. The definition of inspiration.
